Large and reliable car rental services usually have a wide and varied selection of brands for rent. So when you plan to rent a car, it would be advisable to familiarize yourself with the type of car that is suited to your specific needs and requirements.

It is undeniable that today there are more and more types of cars on the market with their respective advantages and disadvantages. There are superior cars with cool exterior designs and according to your “soul”, there are also cars with the best features to make the trip more enjoyable, or kitchen runways that are capable of being carried to all fields.

Different Types of Cars

Before choosing what type of car to rent, you should first know the types of cars. From the functional side, there are two types of cars being marketed, namely passenger cars (passenger cars) and commercial vehicles (commercial vehicles). Although both have their own functions, in the end it's okay to use a car for these two purposes. Judging from the design, the following types of cars are available at car rental services.

  1. Saloon car

This type of car is the easiest to find and recognize. This car has a short and elongated body. At the back, there is a large trunk to store luggage until the spare tire. Sedan cars are usually used for racing cars that are often modified.

Sedan car has advantages in driving comfort and stability. As for the weakness, because of the short body of this car is difficult to hit a puddle. Short ground clearance is not suitable for crossing on bad roads, bumpy, or up and down areas. In terms of capacity, the sedan can accommodate 5 passengers, both small sedans, medium sedans, large sedans, and luxury sedans. Examples of sedans in Indonesia are the Toyota Camry, BMW 3 Series Sedan, Toyota Corolla Altis, and Mazda 6.

As mentioned earlier, sedans are often used as racing cars. For this reason, in addition to the usual sedan, there is also a sports sedan whose function is limited. The price is quite high but has several drawbacks, one of which is wasteful fuel because it supports high performance. Examples of sports sedans are the Honda Civic Type-R, BMW i8, and Ferrari.

  1. SUV

SUV or Sport Utility Vehicle is a breakthrough from the manufacturer to create a tough car like an off road car but as comfortable as a sedan. SUV itself is further divided into several types, namely low SUV, medium SUV, high SUV, and double cabin, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages of an SUV is its high ground clearance so that it can break through all terrain.

For capacity, there are two choices of SUVs, namely 5 seater and 7 seater. No need to doubt the problem of comfort when driving because it is designed to have a soft suspension despite the dashing exterior. However, the drawback of this type of car is the high price, especially if it is used for transportation with good road conditions. Some of the SUVs that you will often find are the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Nissan Terra, and Honda HR-V.

  1. MPV Mobil car

Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) are often compared to SUVs. Both are quite popular in Indonesian society. However, MPV cars are widely used for families. The body is fairly medium and has various functions. Not only used for passenger cars, MPVs are also commonly found as commercial cars.

MPV cars are divided into several types, namely low MPV, medium MPV, and premium MPV with a capacity of 7-8 passengers. For its ground clearance, it is quite high above 200 mm so that it is still comfortable to drive even on bumpy terrain. In terms of price, this type of car is also relatively affordable with embedded technology features.

The disadvantages of MPV cars are that they are less comfortable than sedans and less tough than SUVs. But even so, this type of car is still coveted by many Indonesian families and is easy to find on the road. Even MPV cars are one of the most rented car choices in car rentals. Examples of MPV cars are the Toyota Avanza, Mitsubishi Xpander, Wuling Confero S, Daihatsu Sigra, and Toyota Calya.

  1. Mobil Hatchback

Another type of car that you can find in car rental is the hatchback. This car is similar to a city car but has a longer size. The hatchback is one of the most popular types of cars for young people and women because it has an aerodynamic design and is small so it is easy to drive in urban areas.

This car is usually equipped with the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) feature which makes the car's movement remain stable, even when passing through potholes. The drawback is that the ground clearance is relatively short compared to other types. Although small, this car is equipped with a trunk and can accommodate about 5 passengers. One of the hatchback cars in Indonesia is the Honda Brio, Suzuki Baleno, Mazda 2, and Toyota Yaris.

  1. City car

As the name implies, the city car is suitable for mobility on urban roads. The advantage of this car is in its small design so that it is agile to move on city streets that are often jammed and able to explore the narrow streets of the capital city. Unfortunately, this car is not suitable for long trips. The small cabin design also makes it easy for passengers to get sore. Because of its small capacity which can only accommodate 5 people, this car is not suitable for traveling with a large family.

  1. Pickup Car & Double Cabin

If previously discussed many cars for passengers, this time there are pickups that are commonly used for commercial or business cars. It has been a long time since pickup cars have helped the economy of entrepreneurs to help smooth their business. One type of pickup that is widely known is the Suzuki Carry Pick Up.

In addition to this type of car, there is also a pick-up truck that is open at the back or commonly known as a double cabin. As the name implies, this car has 2 cabins, one for passengers and the other for storage of heavy equipment commonly used in mining areas. Because it is used for heavy transportation, this type of car has proven to be tough. One example of a double cabin is the Hilux Double Cabin.

  1. Crossover Car

At the beginning of its appearance, this type of crossover car was not so popular. The first model in Indonesia is the 2007 Suzuki SX4 and only became known after the hatchback and SUV trends emerged. A crossover car is a combination of a hatchback and an SUV that has an aerodynamic design so that it can maneuver on urban streets. One of these types of cars is the Toyota CH-R, Nissan Juke, and Mazda CX-3.

  1. Convertible Car

If you want to drive a stylish car that makes you more classy, then drive an open-top car or convertible. Technically this car has a roof that can be opened and closed. However, if you look closely, this car is not suitable to drive on the highway with traffic jams because the car has limited visibility so that it can endanger the driver.

Another drawback of this car is the price of expensive spare parts. Examples of convertible cars in Indonesia are the Porsche 718, BMW 4 Series, and Mercedes Benz SL-Class.

  1. Off road car

For those of you who like to travel offroad, don't forget to rent this type of car. Usually this car is used for adventure purposes and is called offroad because of its ability in challenging terrain situations. In terms of fuel, offroad cars tend to be extravagant. Another drawback is the relatively high maintenance costs. The existing off-road car circulating in Indonesia is the Suzuki Jimny.

  1. LCGC Cars

Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) is a government program to procure cars at economical and environmentally friendly prices. The goal is to make the vehicle affordable for the middle class considering that this car is priced at no more than IDR 170 million.

There are several advantages of this type of car besides being environmentally friendly. Call it a compact dimension so it is agile enough for everyday use, especially in congested road conditions. Examples of LCGC cars are the Daihatsu Sigra and Toyota Calya.

Tips for Choosing a Car Rental According to Your Needs

Having previously mentioned the various types of cars in Indonesia, now is the time to discuss tips on choosing a car rental according to your needs. By knowing the types, hopefully you can find which type of car is right for you to rent, whether it is a passenger car, luxury car, heavy duty car, or logistics car.

If you already know what type of car you will rent, be sure to choose the best car rental service so that your trip remains comfortable and safe. Here are tips for choosing a car rental service according to your needs.

  1. Make sure to find out the information clearly. You can find information about the nearest car rental from your city to make the car pick-up process easier. Make sure that the rental you will choose has a contact or 24-hour customer service that will immediately help you when something unexpected happens.

  2. Pay attention to the quality of service provided on the rental car. Check the cleanliness of the vehicle, the condition of the vehicle, to a reliable driver who can even be a tour guide if you rent a car for vacation purposes. Fortunately, times have become so sophisticated that it allows you to check the service quality of a car rental. In the search engine you can see ratings and responses from users who have used the car rental service.
