Renewing your vehicle registration certificate (STNK) has now become easier, thanks to the e-Samsat service, which allows you to do it online, without having to go to the Samsat office.

As you already know, every citizen who owns a motorized vehicle is obliged to renew their STNK on time. Vehicle owners who let their STNK expire for two years and more will have their vehicle data records deleted. This is in accordance with the policy of Korlantas Polri and the Regional Office, Samsar and Jasa Raharja in article 74 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ).

Therefore, as a good vehicle owner, you need to renew your STNK in a timely manner to avoid fines and even deletion of vehicle data records. If you don't have time to go to the nearest Samsat office, it's good to understand the ways and terms of renewing your STNK via online.   Herewith we summarize important things about how to easily and quickly extend your STNK online.

Annual and Five-Year Taxes renewal requirements

STNK extensions are carried out once a year and once in five years. The difference is that the annual STNK extension is related to the motor vehicle tax or PKB, while the five-year extension is related to the replacement of your vehicle's number plate. In accordance with Law Number 22 of 2009, all vehicle owners are required to change their vehicle number plates. Failure to do so will result in a fine of Rp. 500,000 and imprisonment for a maximum of two months.

The following are the requirements for an online vehicle registration renewal that you must fulfill.

1. Annual vehicle registration renewal requirements

  • The original KTP must match the name on the STNK or BPKB.

  • Original STNK as proof of vehicle ownership.

  • Prepare enough cash according to the nominal vehicle tax that must be paid

2. Five-Year STNK renewal requirements

  • The original KTP must match the name on the STNK or BPKB.

  • Original STNK as proof of vehicle ownership.

  • Original BPKB for checking the frame number and engine number

  • Prepare enough cash according to the nominal vehicle tax that must be paid.

How to extend STNK online via the e-Samsat website

One way to extend STNK online is through the e-Samsat website in each province. However, you need to be aware that this method does not apply between provinces. If you are not in an area that matches the vehicle number plate, then this online method cannot be done.

Then how do you extend your STNK through the e-Samsat website?

  1. Open the e-Samsat site according to the area on the vehicle number plate.

  2. Next you need to fill in the vehicle data. Here are some things you need to include:

    • Samsat: Choose the Samsat office that will take care of your vehicle.

    • Police number: enter your vehicle's license plate number.

    • Code: Rewrite the captcha code that is in the box.

    • Click "search".

    • Later you will be redirected to a page containing vehicle information, the amount of tax to be paid, and fines for delays.

  3. Afterwards, you need to select the city where the tax receipt is taken. Before paying via internet banking, you need to fill out a form which will later be used as proof of taking a tax note to be submitted to the e-Samsat of your domicile.

  4. Next in order is to complete the payment through internet banking, ATM or m-Banking services. Here are the steps for paying vehicle tax online:

    • Go to the Pay menu > Multi Payment > Select Samsat according to where you live.

    • Enter the payment code that was provided during registration on the previous e-Samsat web.

    • Click 'Continue' to make the payment process.

    • Print out proof of payment as valid proof which will later be exchanged for a new vehicle tax receipt.

    • Keep in mind that the exchange of tax receipts is only valid for seven days from the print out of proof of payment. Therefore, you are advised to come to the Samsat office immediately to collect the tax receipt.

  5. After paying for the STNK online, then you need to pick up the tax receipt at the Samsat office that was registered at the start of the previous payment process. Don't forget to bring proof of payment, KTP, and original STNK to be submitted to the officer.
