Which Area Do Plates K and L Represent?

Every motorized vehicle in Indonesia must have a license plate number. This plate serves as the identity of the vehicle. To distinguish one vehicle from another, vehicle license plates are composed of a series of unique numbers and letters according to the region the vehicle originates from. The vehicle number plate will be given by the authorities to each new vehicle purchased by the consumer. Aside from being a vehicle identity, the vehicle number plate also functions as a driver's license indicating that the vehicle is free to drive on the highway. The vehicle number plate consists of the front letter code, number code, back letter code, and date code. These codes contain information about the identity of vehicle ownership such as the area of origin of the vehicle. Each region has a different unique code. Where do the K Vehicle Number Plates Come From?

Vehicle number plates vary according to the area of origin of the vehicle. The K vehicle number plates come from the province of Central Java for the Pati, Kudus, Jepara, Grobongan, Blora, and Rembang areas. You can distinguish the city or county the vehicle is from based on the letter code behind the license plate. The following is the rear letter code for the vehicle number plate K:

  1. Pati Regency: A*/G*/H*/S*/U

  2. Jepara Regency: C*/L*/Q*/V*

  3. Grobogan Regency: F*/J*/P*/Z*

  4. Blora Regency: E*/N*/X*/Y*

  5. Rembang Regency: D*/I*/M*/W*

  6. Kudus Regency: B*/K*/O*/R*/T*

 

 

Vehicle Number Plate L Where Do You Come From?

Vehicle Number Plate L is only used in the Surabaya area. The code behind the vehicle number plate in this area has a special meaning, namely to indicate the area of the Samsat where the Motor Vehicle Number Certificate (TNKB) was issued. The following is the rear letter code for the L vehicle number plate:

  1. East Surabaya Samsat: A*/B*/C*/D*/E*/F*

  2. South Surabaya Samsat: G*/H*/J*/K*/L*/M*

  3. Central Surabaya and North Surabaya Samsat : N*/O*/P*/Q*/R*/S*/T*/U*

  4. West Surabaya Samsat: V*/W*/X*/Y*/Z*

  5. Mutation vehicles from other areas: I*/O*/U*

 

Even so, the meaning of the Surabaya regional vehicle number plate code can also be seen from the color of the vehicle number plate used. As with other regions, vehicle license plates with a yellow base color indicate that the vehicle is public transportation. Usually, for the Surabaya area, public transport cars use a yellow license plate that starts with a combination of the last letter U. Public transport vehicles use yellow license plates with the code ending P.

 

In addition, there is a unique code that is used for vehicle number plates in the Surabaya area with a red base color. The red plate indicates that the vehicle is an official vehicle owned by a certain agency. Each agency has a different letter code that is used on the plate combination. The following is the meaning of the red number plate code combination for the Surabaya area:

  1. The letter combinations AP, BP, CP, DP, EP, GP, HP, and JP are used by vehicles belonging to the East Java Provincial Government and are assigned to the South Surabaya and East Surabaya areas. This letter combination is also used for ITS official vehicles, Airlangga University, Surabaya State University (UNESA Ketintang), and UIN Sunan Ampel.

  2. The combination of the letters KP, MP, NP, PP, QP, RO, SP, TP, VP, WP, XP, and ZP is used by vehicles owned by the City Government of Surabaya.

  3. The letter combinations QP, RP, SP, TP, VP, WP, and XP are used by vehicles belonging to the Province of East Java serving in North Surabaya and West Surabaya areas.

How to Read the Letter Code Behind the Vehicle Number Plate

As you already know, a vehicle's license plate consists of a front letter code, a number code, and a rear letter code. The rear letter code for each vehicle usually consists of 1 to 3 letters. The arrangement of these letters has its meaning and cannot be used recklessly. The following is the meaning of the rear letter code of the vehicle:

 

1. First Letter Back Code

The first letter indicates the city or county code the vehicle originates from. The code is adjusted to the first letter code. You must know the code meaning of the first letter of the vehicle number plate, before knowing about the last letter which contains the city or district code.

 

2. Second Letter Back Code

The second letter code is usually used as the vehicle type code. This code is only used for cars and large vehicles. Here are some of the meanings of the letters according to the type and class of the vehicle:

  1. A is a type of sedan or pick-up vehicle.

  2. D is a type of truck vehicle.

  3. F is a type of minibus, hatchback and city car.

  4. J is a type of jeep and SUV.

  5. Q is a type of government staff vehicle.

  6. T is a type of taxi vehicle.

  7. U is a type of government staff vehicle.

  8. V is a type of minibus vehicle.

 

3. Third Letter Back Code

The third letter code is used as a distinguishing letter. An area certainly has many types and numbers of vehicles. Each vehicle may not have the same vehicle license plate code, therefore, the third letter makes a difference.

 

You can find out about the identity of the vehicle through a series of vehicle numbers and letters, for example, the vehicle number plate L 1234 AJM. When interpreted one by one, L indicates that the vehicle is from Surabaya, 1234 indicates that the vehicle is a passenger car, A indicates that the TNKB vehicle is from the East Surabaya Samsat, J indicates the type of car used is a jeep or SUV, and M is unique code as a differentiator with other vehicles.

How to Check Tax Number Plates K and L

By Law Number 28 of 2009 concerning Regional Taxes and Regional Levies, every owner of a motorized vehicle must pay motorized vehicle tax. Now, you can easily check your vehicle tax online. The following is how to check K and L number plate taxes online:

 

1. On the E-Samsat website

  1. Open the e-samsat.id website.

  2. Select the origin of your vehicle. Choose Central Java for vehicles with K license plates and Surabaya for vehicles with L license plates.

  3. Fill in the required data such as license plate code, license plate number, serial number, and vehicle chassis number, and select a province.

  4. Click "Check now".

  5. Fill in the security code if available.

  6. Information regarding your license plate number will be displayed on the screen.

 

2. On the National Digital SIGNAL-Samsat application

  1. Download the SIGNAL-Samsat Digital Nasional application through Google Play or the App Store on your smartphone

  2. Open the SIGNAL-Samsat Digital National application.

  3. Enter your account username and password. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one first.

  4. Select the province according to the license plate of the vehicle you are going to check. Choose Central Java for vehicles with K license plates and Surabaya for vehicles with L license plates.

  5. Enter your vehicle's license plate number.

  6. Click 'Search' or 'Check PKB'.

  7. Information related to vehicle tax will be displayed on the screen.
